A teacher at Thomasville High School has been arrested and charged with having a sexual relationship with one of his students.

Edward Heath Williamson, 33, of 10 Johnia Court, is facing two counts of a sexual act between a teacher and a student for an alleged relationship with a 17-year-old female. Williamson, THS’ Instructional Technological Facilitator, is accused of having sexual intercourse with the female, who is one of his students, on two separate occasions while on school grounds. Williamson has been suspended with pay until an investigation is completed.

“We were told about some improprieties and we investigated and found there was some truth to it,” THS Principal Deboy Beamon said. “He broke a sacred code and you just don’t do that.”

According to Det. Jeff McCrary, Thomasville Police Department received notification by the THS school resource officer last Wednesday that a teacher was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a female student. An investigation alleges that Williamson and the female had two separate sexual encounters on Dec. 16 and Jan. 15. Since the female student is at least 16 years old, no statutory charges have been filed.

“This is a class G felony,” said McCrary. “This crime was put in place specifically for teacher-student relationships. Age has nothing to do with it. Teachers are not allowed to have sexual relationships with students they’re teaching.”

Williamson turned himself into TPD on Friday and was issued a $10,000 unsecured bond. He is scheduled to appear in Thomasville District Court on Feb. 12.

“There have been accusations about an inappropriate relationship with a student,” Thomasville City Schools Superintendent Keith Tobin said. “It’s under investigation at this point. Concerning the accusation of a student and a teacher, there was immediate action taken to take care of that situation.”

Tobin didn’t want to comment on whether Williamson would be terminated, but did say that “I can assure you that the situation will be handled appropriately and in a timely manner. It is a personnel matter and I can’t comment any more than that.”

Williamson could not be reached for comment by press time Monday.

Now in his second year at THS, Wiliamson also is an assistant coach with the varsity football team. Williamson came to THS from Randolph County and was responsible for helping students develop senior projects.

To YY even tho you do not think we have proper english in T-vill you must like what we have to say or you would not be so up to date on the current events. As for the innocent young lady involved I can remember when I was 16 and got into trouble with my boyfriend I very much knew it was wrong so where were her parents?
Think How You'd Feel

All of you rushing to judgment need to

stop writing this garbage already. You

have nothing good to say, then why not

let it go and wait for the facts to be

established by the courts. You may see

yourself regretting all of this later.

Think how you would feel.

In the end, I hope those of you rushing to condemn this man will feel like complete jerks.

If it turns out that this young damsel is not being 100% truthful, as has happened in the past with other such stories, you will see that you are going to feel pretty lousy. Let's hope you never find yourself in such a situation.

If I'm wrong, and it's all true, then so be it--I won't feel bad, stupid, or anything else. I will feel good about being able to view someone more favorably than he deserved, as opposed to viewing him in a light less favorable than he deserved.

Heath, I hope your wife, that chose you for better or worse, can honestly see you truly repent and never repeat this situation...and still be there for you tomorrow. Wife, no one blames you if you can't. Only you and the Lord Almighty can find the kind of strength and wisdom necessary to make that call. I pray the Lord grant you peace of mind, for you, for your children, for your future. For the student, you should be utterly ashamed. You've let something so little as affection bend and alter your world, all before receiving a diploma. The journey ahead of you is long. I hope you seriously take the time to back up, evaluate your decisions, and think there's some truth behind the saying "if you have to hide it, then it's wrong." You make adult decisions, you get adult consequences. Deal with the rumors you've created for yourself. You too have ownership and responsibility in this matter. I know that is blunt, but better to deal with it all now and move on than any of you to carry it with you....
Outsider Looking In
|
January 27, 2010
We are all outsiders looking in to the story. No one but Heath, the student and the good Lord actually know just what happened. I went to school with Heath and know that he is a decent guy. I am not saying that he is not guilty or that he is guilty. But we are not to judge. That is up to God to do. What we need to do is pray for healing on both sides of the story. If he did this then he needs to man up and take the punishment and if he didn't then I pray that this does not ruin him. I pray that the young girl gets her life straight no matter what. We don't need to be on here bashing anyone or telling them that they need to be castrated. I pray for Heath, his wife and 3 children and the victim. We all and I do mean each and everyone of us have done things that we are not proud of. We all make dumb mistakes. Some worse than others. All we have to do is pray to God and ask his forgivness for any thing. Thanks God for being such a patient and forgiving God. Praying for all in this situation.

THS Student:

It's obvious you're upset about the situation but I believe the reasoning behind her name not being published is bc of her age. Also she is not completely at fault here. It takes two. Mr. Williamson, as the adult, has a part in this. As the adult and mentor/administrator that line should have never been crossed. Its obvious he made a terrible mistake nad im sure both sides are suffering from it.

Reading all of the comments and I'm amazed. I'm not in a place to judge anyone, but I have to agree with concerned parent. Regardless of what type of person the girl was something happened. My daughter is friends with Mr. Williamson's daughter and there is no question that he was a good guy, but good people make bad decisions also. This seems to be one of those times. It is so much that can be said but why? Im sure the judicial system will handle it.

It's unfortunate, but we all do things. We just don't expect to get caught. Sometimes we have to count to cost. What is at risk?
Morals

January 26, 2010
This is getting ugly. I don't have ties to anyone involved in this but I am thinking of both families. The name calling and accusations should be left out of this discussion. Both parties involved have families that are affected by this situation and I am sure they are enduring enough. I would like to see all of these blogs removed. THS student, that was a low blow to post someone's name. Please let's exhibit some morals and allow the parties involved to maintain some dignity. Both families are in my prayers.

Concerned Parent:

Easy to write. Other than his parental/marital status, you are just speculating based upon TCS procedures. At any rate, I suspect an arrest is, by definition, probable cause.

You have real first hand knowledge--prove it.

I do have first hand information regarding the situation and I know that there was some inappropriate action taken on the part of Mr. Williamson. No one is suspended from TCS without probable cause. Mr. Williamson is a husband and a father of two girls and should not have engaged in any action that could have been viewed as inappropriate with a student. A school employee has to conduct themselves in a certain manner as they are trusted with children.

Concerned Parent:

I don't think any blame should be placed on anyone until the issue is resolved.

Put another way, if it turns out that the alleged events actually occurred, I agree with you wholeheartedly. If it turns out the other way, however, only Williamson is being slandered.

Now, the complaints below relate to the automatic assignment of predator status to Williamson before any facts come out other than an arrest. Unless you were in the room, reviewed a video tape, or otherwise have first hand personal knowledge of exactly what happened, I think you're wrong to automatically assign victim and/or predator status to anyone involved in this story.

I have read all of the comments posted and it appears as though Mr. Williamson is being portrayed as the victim. I know the student aand the teacher involved and I am also a parent. As a parent and a school employee any indiscretion with a student is unacceptable. Mr. Williamson is the adult in the situation and should conduct himself as such. The student involved in the situation is the victim and should be treated as such and not slandered because people like Mr. Williamson as a coach and a person. The principal's job is to implement the policies of the school and to ensure the safety of all students. Please stop trying to place blame on the student, principal, and anyone other than Mr. Williamson.

This is for ThomasE, whoever you are! I'll ignore your comment about my intelligence, which I doubt you can accurately gauge from my short comment!

At any rate, the sarcasm noted in my comment wasn't directed at you! It was directed to the author of the article, whose inclusion of the principal's comments was, in my opinion, inappropriate!

Speaking of things that are not needed, I notice your writing style incorporates copious usage of exclamation points! I suggest that you perhaps consider ending a sentence with a period every once in a while instead of an exclamation point! Exclamation points should be reserved for use in limited circumstances! If not, reading your comments becomes tedious and annoying!

In other words, exclamation points and other forms of emphasis are not always necessary!

to uuuuuu whatever-Just because someone is accused of something doesn't mean that they did it! There are always more than one side to every story and it seems that we are only hearing one side. My kids have had him as a teacher and coach and he is outstanding at both. People need to give him a break and wait until the truth comes out. My kids tell me that this girl has lied before. If its a lie, I hope she understands what this lie is costing Mr. Williamson. Hopefully his wife will stand by him through this and they can move on and put this behind them soon. She seems like a nice person and she and their kids don't deserve this attention and what people are saying. Anyone who knows Mr. Williamson, knows what kind of man he is-he's one of the good guys!

Great story Tville Times!

I just love the principal's comments in the story. Way to paint a picture.

Don't worry, I'm sure your irresponsible story certainly will not tread upon Mr. Williamson's right to a fair and impartial jury of his peers. After all, Thomasville is a big place and very few people there can read--particularly English.

Yes, there's a little sarcasm in this comment.
