College Hoops: Storm rally falls short
Davidson County Community College dropped its fourth Region X conference game of the season Saturday, falling short on the road to Caldwell Community College, 98-91.
The Storm were getting embarrassed late in the second half, trailing 83-58 with seven minutes to go. A letup by the Cobras and surge by the Storm made things very interesting, as DCCC rallied back and trimmed the deficit to three as the clock hit 30 seconds. Caldwell kept its composure and held off any further charge to keep pace in the league standings with Sandhills Community College.
“The guys did a great job of speeding the game up and getting deflections and steals,” said Storm coach Matt Ridge. “We were able to cut it to three with 30 seconds to go, but unfortunately we were not able to close the deal. I was certainly pleased with how we competed and never quit.”
The contest was tightly called with the teams committing a combined 61 fouls. A whopping 88 free throws were attempted.
DCCC was led in scoring by Daniel Lawson’s 18 points. Brandon Brown added 15, Brandon Davis had 11 and Ace Chalmers 10.
