Thomasville's girls simply had no answer for Bayley Plummer and her East Davidson teammates Wednesday evening in the semifinals of the Central Carolina Conference tournament.
Recording a triple-double with 26 points, 18 rebounds and 13 blocked shots, the super sophomore did it all in helping the Lady Golden Eagles to a surprisingly easy 61-28 win at Lexington Senior High School.
“She is a very good player,” commented THS coach Brandon Staton, who saw his club fall to 13-9 for the year.
East established the 6-2 forward early, pounding the ball inside and getting to the free throw line. Even with the Eagles hitting 10-of-11 first quarter free throws, the Lady Bulldogs were only five points back with Christina Coleman and Jashana Thomas nailing a pair of 3-pointers. Unfortunately for THS, those two shots would be it for the first half.
Plummer scored the first six points to build a lead of 23-12 three minutes into the second period. East added four more points at the line and Plummer hit a layup at the buzzer, ending a disastrous frame in which the Bulldogs did not score a single point.
“I thought we did well at first and then we just started letting it slip away and it got out of hand,” said Staton. “We just have not been working together as a team lately.”
Plummer nearly had a triple-double at the half having 17 points, nine boards and 10 rejections.
She got the elusive rebound early in the third quarter and East continued to pile up points. Plummer tallied the final points of the third period, matching the number on her jersey in doing so as East was in complete control up 42-17.
Top-seeded East advances to Friday's final against second-seeded North Rowan. No matter the outcome, the Eagles will keep the No. 1 seed out of the CCC.
For THS, it is possible they could make the playoffs despite finishing fourth in the league.
“It is questionable right now,” said Staton. “We might have to go somewhere very far to play a team that is well-coached and very good.”

Notes: East is now 21-2 and got eight points from Madi Hallman … Megan Kinley led Thomasville with eight points … Check for results from the CCC finals.
