Prep Hoops: Lady Panthers stop North
For a second time in the span of 10 days, Ledford’s girls basketball team defeated North Davidson on Friday. This time, the Panthers more easily dispatched the Black Knights in a 63-46 win for the Panthers.
Emmalee Thomas and Courtney Callicutt led the Panthers with 15 and 14 points, respectively, and played excellent perimeter defense as a part of an intense full-court press. Leanne Midkiff and Jada Bell also starred defensively, keeping North from establishing a presence in the paint.
“I thought Leanne and Courtney did a good job on the boards,” Ledford coach John Ralls said. “When we pushed it up the court, we were able spread people out to the three-point line and get the ball to our shooters before the defense had a chance to fan out. We got some quick looks at threes and were able to knock them down.”
Ledford held a double-digit lead throughout the second half and were scarcely challenged in the fourth quarter. Thomas was a major difference-maker, as she regained her touch from beyond the arc.
“That’s what we really need from her is for her to be consistent, get looks and start knocking them down,” Ralls said.
The Panthers (3-2) will play tonight at West Davidson.
