NCHSAA State Playoffs: East baseball, softball eliminated in Tuesday games
East Davidson's baseball team had high hopes of competing for a state championship, but a rough outing Tuesday against Cuthbertson brought an end to their season. The visiting Cavaliers knocked off the Golden Eagles 11-4 in the second round of the NCHSAA state playoffs at East Davidson.
Cuthbertson built a 7-1 lead, but Avery Bowles took a big chunk out of the deficit with a three-run homer that made it 7-4. East could not score again as Cuthbertson tacked on four more runs to leave town with a healthy win.
East ends the season with a record of 21-4.
Not far away at the softball field, East saw its lead in the third vanish as West Stanly surged on to a 12-6 victory. The Eagles were up 5-4 after four innings, but West plated five runs in the fifth inning to seize control.
The East girls finished the year at 17-8.
