Prep baseball/softball tourney updates

Three area teams have reached the conference finals in softball and baseball.
In the Central Carolina Conference, top-seeded East Davidson narrowly escaped an upset bid by the fourth-seeded Central Davidson Spartans in a 4-3 victory. The Golden Eagles advance to Thursday's final in Tyro against host school West Davidson. The Green Dragons are seeded third and upended No. 2 Salisbury, 3-0.
Game time is 7 p.m.
In CCC softball, East and Central dropped each of their opponents by a 17-0 score. The two will meet in a rubber match Friday at East at 7 p.m. with the top seed for the state playoffs on the line.
In Mid-Piedmont Conference action, Ledford has reached Thursday's softball final at Southwestern Randolph by beating Asheboro, 5-3 in Wednesday's semifinal. The second-seeded Panthers will play the host and top-seeded Cougars at 7 p.m.
In MPC baseball, No. 4 Ledford fell a run short of the championship game by losing to No. 2 seed Asheboro 4-3.
