Matt Ridge spent the latter part of last week taking in the sights and sounds of the NCAA Final Four in Atlanta, Ga. On Monday, it was back to business for the head basketball coach at Davidson County Community College.
Making the trip to Hunter Huss High School in Gastonia, Ridge signed Jerimiah Hunter — his first recruit for the 2013-14 season.
An undersized 6-3 forward who plays much bigger, Hunter helped lead the Huskies to a 25-4 record in his senior campaign. He averaged 14 points per game and snatched seven rebounds a night. On the defensive end, he averaged 2.6 steals and swatted 2.8 shots.
“I am very excited about Jerimiah joining our Storm basketball family,” said Ridge. “He brings toughness, athleticism, and a winning attitude. He is fearless and is extremely versatile. He rebounds very well for his size and he is capable of guarding any position on the floor. Most importantly, he is a great kid who seems to want to be coached.”
Hunter committed verbally to the program about a month ago after being recruited since Christmas. Ridge credits assistant coach Jon Weavil for landing the stud from Hunter Huss.
“Coach Weavil did a great job of staying in touch with him. He was the primary recruiter and saw Jerimiah play more than I did. When I saw him play in the regionals I loved him once I saw him. Jerimiah should be an impact player for us.”
