Churches plan Easter events

WOMAN’S DAY
The Rev. Selestine Wood of Zion Tabernacle Fire Baptized Holiness Church in Thomasville will be the speaker at the 33rd annual Woman’s Day Program at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 17, at Central United Methodist Church. The church is located at 115 James Ave. in Thomasville.

FAMILY DAY
St. John AME Zion Church at 306 Church St. in Thomasville, will observe family and friends day at the 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. worship services Sunday, March 17. The guest speaker for the 3 p.m. service will be the Rev. Kevin O. Little and the congregation of New City House of Praise in Mooresville. St. John’s pastor, the Rev. Dr. Warren A. Nance Sr., will speak at the 11 a.m. service.

PRAYER BREAKFAST
Brown New Calvary Baptist Church will hold its first ladies prayer breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23. The church is located at 200 Doak St. in Thomasville. For more information, call 761-0201.

EASTER EGG HUNT
Thomasville First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 509 Cloniger in Thomasville, will hold an Easter egg hunt from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 30. The event, free for children ages 2 -12, will include games, face painting, activities, candy, prize-filled eggs and a hot dog lunch.

BREAKFAST
Thomasville Community Missions -  United Methodist Churches in the Thomasville area - will hold a pancake and bacon breakfast from 6 to 10:30 a.m. today (March 16) at Bethel United Methodist Church on Fisher Ferry Street.  Proceeds will benefit the Shepherd's Inn on Hinkle Street.

REVIVAL
The Missionary Department of Zion Tabernacle Fire Baptized Holiness Church will hold a revival 7:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, March 18-20. The Rev. Ronnie Lamont Walker, pastor of Greater New Hope Church, will speak. The church is at 710 Douglas Drive in Thomasville.

YARD SALE
LOT Ministries at 125 Richard Road in Thomasville will hold a yard sale from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 23.  The sale includes clothes, furniture and more. For more information, call 471-5410.

EVENTS SET
First Missionary Baptist Church offers two special events — the Women’s Prayer Breakfast today (March 16) and an anniversary celebration Sunday.
The Willing Workers Ministry will host the Women’s Prayer Breakfast from 10 a.m. to noon.  The speaker will be Cathy Davis.
The Deacons and Deaconesses’ Anniversary Celebration will be held during the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday. Associate Minister Barry Eugene Hower of Friendship Baptist Church in Lexington will be the guest speaker.
First Missionary Baptist Church is located at 103 Church St. in Thomasville.

DINNER, BREAKFAST
Hopewell United Methodist Church will hold a country breakfast buffet will be held from 7 to 10 a.m. today (March 16). The menu includes eggs, grits, biscuits, gravy,  pancakes, bacon, sausage, ham, and choice of beverage. The cost is $8 for adults, $3 for ages 6-12 and free for ages 5 and under. 
The church is selling pine needles, which will be available at the church beginning Saturday, March 23. To order bales, call 431-9507. The cost is $5 a bale.

LENT LUNCH
First Presbyterian Church, 21 Randolph St. in Thomasville, will offer a Lenten devotional and luncheon from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesdays. Lunch is provided by the Presbyterian Women and proceeds will benefit various mission and outreach programs.
Worship begins at noon and a lunch of soup, sandwich and dessert and beverage served at 12:30 p.m. The cost is a $6 donation.

March 19: the  Rev. Cyrus Bush, tenor, chaplain of Thomasville Medical Center with Gray King as accompanist.
March 26: Josef Walker, organist of Heidelberg United Church of Christ.
In addition, the church will hold Maundy Thusday, March 28, worship and communion at 7 p.m.

EASTER SERVICES
New Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 4101 Jerusalem Road, just off Old Hwy. 64 in Silver Valley, will offer the following Easter services.
March 24: Palm Sunday, 11 a.m. worship with The Rev. Jimmy J. Norred.
March 24: A joint Palm Sunday service at 7 p.m. at First Reformed United Church of Christ in Lexington.
March 28: Maundy Thursday holy communion service at 7:30 p.m.
March 31: Easter Sunday will begin with a sunrise service and holy communion at 6:30 a.m. followed by breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and Sunday school at 8:30 a.m.
Everyone is invited to attend the services.  The Rev. Jimmy J. Norred serves as pastor.

DIVINITY DEGREE
The Pneuma Pentecostal Church of Deliverance will celebrate the conferring of an honorary doctor of divinity degree upon the church's pastor, Bishop Faye D. Thomas, at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, March 31.  The service will be held at Pneuma Pentecostal Church of Deliverance, 200 Kern St. in Thomasville. LENT
Piedmont Crossing invites the public to attend an upcoming Lent series at noon Wednesdays through March 27.
The Rev. Dr. Roland Cavanaugh,  director of spiritual life at Piedmont Crossing, will lead the seven week series. Cavanaugh will discuss the biblical history relating to the 40-day Lenten season and explain why Christians around the world observe the time of preparation before Easter to pray, fast and give service to the community.

GOLF TOURNEY
His Laboring Few Harvest Camp seeks sponsors and participants for its annual golf tournament  set for Saturday, April 13, at Winding Creek in Thomasville.
Teams will consist of four players and the cost is $50 per player. The hole sponsorship will be $50 for a partial sponsor and $100 for a full sponsor.
Harvest Camp is the drug and alcohol program that also a working farm which provides produce for the camp as well as for the Father’s Table, which feeds those less fortunate. The camp is funded solely by donations.

MEDITATION CLASS
Daishin Buddhist Center offers meditation class at 6:30 p.m. every Monday. The classes are conducted by the abbot, resident monks or visiting monks. The Daishin Buddhist Center Temple is located at 11267 East US Hwy. 64 in Thomasville. Call 472-0446.
