THOMASVILLE — Mr. Davie Austin (Dave) Ballard, 82, a resident of 439 Old Farm Road, died Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Thomasville Medical Center.
He was born in Thomasville, March 5, 1931, a son of Alexander Lawrence (Buddy) Ballard and Lucy Mae Armstrong Ballard and was a lifelong resident of Davidson County. He grew up on Taylor Street and loved the Hog Eye Boys. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a retired brick mason and loved to rabbit hunt. He was a former member, Sunday school teacher and Deacon at First Baptist Church and was currently a member of Carolina Memorial Baptist Church, where he had served as a Sunday school teacher and Deacon.
He also had served as a Sunday school teacher for the Thomasville Fire Department. He loved church and wanted everyone to know that on July 18, 1957 he was born again in Christ.
On July 26, 1952, he was married to Miss Edith Sebastian, who survives of the home. Also surviving are two sons, Danny Keith Ballard of Thomasville and Randy Dean Ballard and his wife Lauren of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Connor Jordan Ballard and Griffin Tate Ballard of Charlotte; two sisters-in-law, Polly Hill and Phyllis Sebastian, both of Thomasville; a brother-in-law, Arthur Roy (Dickie) Sebastian of Thomasville; nieces, Sherry Stewart, Kathy Darr, and Betsy Brooks; nephews, Tim Ballard, Tommy Ballard, and Robert Ballard; cousins, Franklin Hall and his wife Ola Mae and Ann Hall, both of Thomasville. Also surviving is a special friend, Diane Dalrymple.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lauren Nicole Ballard; two brothers, Billy Lawrence Ballard and Bobby Alexander Ballard; two sisters-in-law, Linda Ballard and Mary Frances Ballard, and by a brother-in-law Richard Hill.
The funeral service was conducted Tuesday, March 12, at Carolina Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Bynum Orr and the Rev. Michael Vipperman. Burial was in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dale Atwood, Chan Creasman, Danny Williamson, Trey Williamson, Bobby Williamson, and Ricky Russell.

Joseph (Joe) Stephen Byrd
THOMASVILLE — Mr. Joseph (Joe) Stephen Byrd, 74, a resident of 913 Ball Park Road, died Sunday, March 10, 2013 at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born on January 19, 1939 in Lenior, NC to Baxter Fred Byrd, Sr. and Lora Pruitt Byrd and had been a resident of Thomasville since 1957. He was the owner and operator of Joe Byrd Construction since 1977 and a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a fireman with The Thomasville Fire Department from 1967-1977 and was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church, the Couple’s Class, Young at Heart, and a member of the Thomasville Planning and Zoning Board for 10 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sons, Joel S. Byrd and Mark S. Byrd; granddaughter, Lindsey T. Hipp; brothers, Bill Byrd, B. Fred Byrd, Jr., and Donald Byrd; and sisters, Eloise B. Jenkins and Esther Byrd.
On June 1, 1957, he married Peggy Harris, who survives of the home; also surviving are his son, Brian G. Byrd and wife Yvonne; daughter, Janet B. Lancaster and husband Michael; grandsons, Alex Byrd, Jacob Lancaster, Noah Lancaster, and Clint Byrd; granddaughters, Kristina B. Lowe and husband Steven, Rebekah Byrd, Nicole Hipp, and Jordan Byrd; great-grandson, Harrison Lowe; brother, James Byrd and wife Rita; sisters, Lillian B. Bartlett and Nancy Turbeville; and his pet and daily companion, Izzy.
The funeral service will be held at noon today (March 13) at Greenwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Byrd will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and at other times at the home.

LEXINGTON — Mary Drake, 90, died Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Lexington Health Care, where she was a resident.
A graveside service was held Tuesday, March 12, at the Lexington City Cemetery.
Davidson Funeral Home assisted the family.
LEXINGTON — Ethel Mae 'Teenie' Foster, 80, died Friday, March 8, 2013 in Winston-Salem.
The funeral service was held Monday, March 11, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel.
LEXINGTON — Barbara Elise Richey Hawley, 71, died Monday, March 11, 2013, at Hinkle Hospice House. No services are scheduled. Friends and family may pay condolences at Candlewood Drive in Winston-Salem. Davidson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
THOMASVILLE — Bessie Viola Hill died Monday, March 11, 2013.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today (March 13) at Thomasville Funeral Home. The service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 14, at the funeral home followed by interment at Holly Hill Memorial Park.
KERNERSVILLE — David Allen Hill, 42, died Thursday, March 7, 2013, at his residence.
The funeral service was held Sunday, March 10, at Union Cross Baptist Church, 4350 High Point Road, Kernersville. Interment followed in Oaklawn Memorial Park. J.C. Green & Sons served the family.
Diane Margaret Nye
THOMASVILLE — Diane Margaret Nye, 63, a resident of Thomasville passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2013 in the Forsyth Medical Center.
Diane was born May 19, 1949 in Malone, New York a daughter of the late Ernest Edwin Nye and Marion Truedell Nye. She had made this area her home for the last thirty two years. Diane was a retired CPA having worked at the VA Administration in Salisbury, NC. She was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam era. Diane was a graduate of High Point University, class of 1989, an avid reader, enjoyed photography, liked to travel, and loved to keep up with family and friends through the internet sharing messages and pictures. She was patriotic and proud to be a veteran. She was also an organ donor.
Surviving are her sister, Sheila Nye of Randleman, NC; brothers, Gerald Deyette and wife Ruth of Trinity, NC, William Nye and wife Cynthia of Hilton Head Island, SC; best friend and caregiver Carolyn Atkins of Thomasville; many loving and caring nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today (March 13) in the J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with the Rev. Bynum Orr officiating. Interment will follow in the Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

LEXINGTON — Jeffery Craver Yarborough, 61, died Saturday, March 9, 2013, after injuries received in a motorcycle accident.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service and other times at the home of his mother on S. NC Highway 150 in Lexington.
