Undine Miller Chesson

RALEIGH — Undine Miller Chesson, 59, of Raleigh died Monday at her home.

She was born in Asheville, NC, but grew up in Thomasville, NC. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Lola Wayne Miller, and Mrs. Undine Cline Miller. Undine was a graduate of East Carolina University with a degree in Therapeutic Recreation. She retired after 32 years of service with Dorthea Dix Hospital as a Rehabilitation Supervisor in Adolescent Services.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Gray Chesson in 1998.

Surviving are her daughter, Natalie Chesson Pope (Alex) of Raleigh; two brothers, Fletcher and Darrell Miller; beloved granddaughter, Kayla Celeste Pope; three special uncles, Charles, Bill, and Jim Cline; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, September 5, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Edenton Street United Methodist Church in Raleigh. The family will receive guests following the service at the church.

A graveside service will be conducted at noon today (Sept. 7)  at Holly Hill Memorial Park in Thomasville, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to breast cancer research, or to a local charity to help feed children in need.

Betty Dougherty

THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Betty Jean Whichard Dougherty, 71, a resident of 1844 Kennedy Farm Road North, died Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at her home.

She was born on December 31, 1941 in Davidson County, NC to William Stewart Whichard and Virginia Mae Griffin Whichard.  She was a US Navy veteran and retired from Highland Fabricators.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Donald and Gary Whichard.

Surviving are a daughter, Cheryl Foley and husband Earl of the home and a son, John Richard Dougherty, III of High Point. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to until at her residence, 1844 Kennedy Farm Road North.

Elsie Fritts

WELCOME — Elsie Brinkley Fritts, 82, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at Pineridge Rehabilitaiton Center in Thomasville.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. today (Sept. 7)  at First Baptist Church of Welcome Cemetery. Davidson Funeral Home is serving the family.

 

Ella Ireland

LEXINGTON — Ella Mae Gentle Ireland, 82, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013.

The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. today (Sept. 7) at Lexington Church of God. Davidson Funeral Home is serving the family.

 

 

Bette  Moore

LEXINGTON — Bette Ragan Moore, 91,  died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013,  at Alston Brook of Lexington.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today (Sept. 7) at Forest Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends following the service.

 

Bill Tysinger

DENTON — William Jacob  “Bill” Tysinger, 77, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013.

The funeral service was held  Friday, Sept. 6, at Fairview United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Briggs Funeral Home in Denton served the family.

 

Alonzo Alvin Vestal

THOMASVILLE — Mr. Alonzo Alvin Vestal, 79, died Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Piedmont Crossing Retirement Community.

He was born on February 22, 1934 in Davidson County, NC to Paul David Vestal and Ader Simmons Vestal.  He retired from Brayton International and was a US Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict.  He was a member of Unity United Methodist Church, where he served on various committees and was the head usher.  He was a member of The High Point Seniors Golf Association and a former Civitan International Citizen of the Year.  He was a loyal supporter of the Thomasville Crop Walk and delivered Meals on Wheels.  He donated over 15 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross and was an Eagle Scout.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise “Mama Lou” Little Vestal on August 19, 2010, whom he married on May 27, 1957; and a brother, Clinton Vestal.

Surviving are two daughters, Donna Frady and husband Alan of Lexington and Jeanette Williams and Dale Kennedy of Thomasville; brothers, James (Ed) Vestal and wife Joyce of Las Vegas, NV and Don Vestal of Archdale; sisters, Hazel Briggs and husband Bill of Jacksonville, FL, Mary Thompson of Richmond, VA, Peggy Whisnant and husband Mark of Thomasville, and Judy Yates and husband Terry of Thomasville; four grandchildren, Alyssa Frady, Wesley Frady, Hope Williams, and Kathryn Williams; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at 3:00 pm at Unity United Methodist Church with Rev. Rob Hutchinson and Rev. Donnie B. Durham officiating.  Interment with military rites provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.  Mr. Vestal will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service.  The family will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 6-8 pm and at other times at the home.

LEXINGTON — Thomas Lee Sutton, 44, died Thursday, Sept. , 2013. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at Silver Valley Baptist Church. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington.
