SOPHIA — Geraldine Dora Phillips Collins, 78, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, in Kindred Hospital in Greensboro.
The funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, in J. C. Green and Sons Chapel in Thomasville. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Thomasville. The family will greet friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
LEXINGTON — Katlin Dawn Combs, 14, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, from injuries received in an automobile accident.
A celebration of life service was held Friday, Feb. 22, in the chapel of Piedmont Funeral Home.
THOMASVILLE- Shirley Althea Coxe, 59, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
The service was held Friday, Feb. 22, at Brown New Calvary Baptist Church in Thomasville. Professional services were entrusted to Prominence Funeral Home.
LEXINGTON — Devara Essick Everhart,86, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013 in Hinkle Hospice House.
The funeral was held Friday, Feb. 22, at Bethesda United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Davidson Funeral Home is serving the family.
THOMASVILLE — Minnie Sue Huffman Everhart, 84, left peacefully from this earth on February 21, 2013.
She was born on May 9, 1928 in Catawba County to Edgar Oscar Huffman and Ola Gantt Huffman. She graduated from Thomasville High School in 1945. Her last place of employment was Carolina Seating in Thomasville.
Surviving are her husband of 65 years James “Bill” Howard Everhart of the home; two daughters, Carlisa Bryant and husband Ed of Davidson, NC, and Nancy Elberson and husband Steve of Beaufort, NC.
Minnie Sue was also the proud grandmother of four grandchildren, Nathan Bryant and wife Emily of Asheville, NC, Matthew Elberson and wife Melissa of Mount Pleasant, NC, Jonathan Bryant and wife Morgan of Mooresville, NC, and Cole Elberson and wife Gina of Newport, NC. She also was blessed with three great-granddaughters, Hanna Elberson, Caroline Bryant and Leah Elberson and one great-grandson Bentley Bryant. She also welcomed into her family two step-great-grandsons, Christopher and Timothy Cagle.
Surviving siblings include a brother Edward Huffman and wife Deloris of Thomasville and a sister, Dorothy Warfford of Thomasville; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Huffman of Memphis, Tennessee. Also remaining are many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sister Lucille Grayson and brother Charles Huffman.
Minnie Sue was a longtime member of Richfork Baptist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School class.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 24, 2013, at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Bowers and the Rev. Bob James officiating. Mrs. Everhart will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until the hour of the graveside service. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the worship center of Rich Fork Baptist Church and at other times at the home. Elizabeth Ann Collett Hay
Elizabeth Ann Collett Hay, 84, Kingsport, died at 10:30 pm on Thursday, February 21, 2013, at Asbury Place at Baysmont.
Born in Thomasville, NC, she was a graduate of the Woman’s College of North Carolina (UNC Greensboro). Elizabeth Ann completed her master’s degree at UNC Chapel Hill. She taught at King College for more than 25 years. Elizabeth Ann was instrumental in the founding of Holston Habitat for Humanity in 1985, and was active in Habitat’s work for more than a quarter century.
She served on various committees in Kingsport, working with the Netherland Inn Association and Kingsport Tomorrow, as well as serving on the Board of Koinonia Partners in Americus, GA for a number of years. Elizabeth Ann served as an Elder and was active in Women of the Church at First Presbyterian Church in Kingsport. She also served as Moderator of Holston Presbytery.
Elizabeth Ann was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Hay, Jr.; parents, Jerome and Fleta Collett; and brothers, Ralph and Harrell Collett.
She is survived by her sons, John R. Hay, III of Kingsport, Jerome Hay and wife, Judy Beck of Asheville, NC, and Bill Hay and wife, Claudia of Germany; four grandchildren, Caitlin, Duncan, Manon and Megan Hay; and brother, John Collett of Thomasville, NC.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday (February 24, 2013) at First Presbyterian Church, Kingsport, with the Rev. Dr. David A. Cagle and the Rev. Sharon Amstutz officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the church.
A graveside service will be conducted at Holly Hill Memorial Park in Thomasville, NC.

LEXINGTON — Buck Ivan Tussey, 92, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at Alston Brook Nursing Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
C. Roscoe Spence
TRINITY — Mr. Charles Roscoe Spence, 57, resident of Trinity, died February 19th, 2013 at High Point Regional Hospital.
Mr. Spence was born July 30th, 1955 in Stuart, Va., a son to the late George Henry and Ethel Leona Spence. A resident of this area most of his life, he was of the Baptist faith and was President of J & R Automotive and Tire Inc. He was a master mechanic and engine builder and was active with the Classic Gear Jammers as a drag racer. In 1974 he married Carolyn Spence, who survives of the residence. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters.
Also surviving are two sons, Randy Spence and Curtis Roscoe Spence both of Trinity; a future grandson, Connor Spence; six sisters and three brothers.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today (Feb. 23) in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.
