Jerry Gordon 

THOMASVILLE — Mr. Jerry Wayne Gordon, 59, of Boggs Road, died Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at the Hospice Home at High Point. 

He was born May 15, 1954 in Davidson County, a son of the late Carl and Kathryn Turner Gordon.  Jerry was employed with Lift 1, Inc. of Greensboro.  He served on the Planning Board for the City of Thomasville. Jerry was active member of Park Place Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Adult #3 Sunday school class, served as a Deacon, on the finance committee, fellowship committee, Baptist Men, and supervised the building and grounds committee.

Jerry was a handyman and woodworker, always offering his help to everyone in need of assistance.  He was affectionately known as the “Go-To” guy.

On June 16, 1973 he was married to Melietta Craddock, who survives of the home.  Also surviving are daughters, Dominique Gordon Roberts and husband Brian and Magan Gordon Walker and fiancé Michael Goodyear, both of Thomasville; grandchildren, Brianna Burton, Hunter Walker, Trevor Burton, Savannah Roberts, Callie Walker and Ethen Roberts; sisters, Joyce Fouts and husband Billy, Patsy Alford and husband Jerry Don, both of Thomasville and Cathy Biddy and husband Mike of High Point; a brother, Sammy Gordon of California; brother-in-law, Joel Craddock of Washington, D.C.; nieces, Camille Craddock and Clara Craddock; and an abundance of extended family and friends.

A visitation will be held Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 2 p.m.-6 p.m. at the residence, 345 Boggs Road, Thomasville.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 5 p.m. at Park Place Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Campbell and the Rev. Teddy Craddock officiating.  The family will greet family and friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, Melietta and the family request those wishing to send memorial contributions do so in Jerry’s memory to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, N.C. 27262, Park Place Baptist Church ( designate General Fund), 201 Kern Street, Thomasville, N.C. 27360 or to the N.C. Jack Daniels

TRINITY—Jack R. Daniels, 82, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013.

The family will receive friends at Sechrest Funeral Service,  120 Trindale Road in Archdale, from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27.  A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at the VA National Cemetery in Salisbury.

 

Juanita Loflin

TRINITY — Mrs. Juanita Elizabeth Steed Loflin, 92, widow of Branson Worth Loflin, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, October 19th at her residence.

A lifelong resident of this area, Juanita was born June 4, 1921 in Cedar Square, the daughter of the late James Addison and Nancy Elizabeth Davis Steed. For many years she had been an active member of Trinity Baptist Church. Her many interests, in addition to her family, included, gardening, cooking, sewing and attending many Gospel singings. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband, friends and family to many different places. She was an avid member of the Sunshine Garden Club and was very famous for her homemade cakes. In addition to her husband, who died March 16, 2001, and her parents, Juanita was also preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Steed Richardson and four brothers, Ray, Glenn, Floyd and Cleo Steed.

Juanita is survived by three daughters, Janice Smith and her husband Ronald of Trinity, Phyllis Brenman of New York City and Sylvia Baird of High Point; four grandchildren, Lisa Smith Norman and her husband Dan of High Rock Lake, Dane Lawing of Santa Monica, CA, Angela Smith Caines and her husband Jason of Trinity and Cort Lawing of Longwood, FL; six great-grandchildren, Alex Smith, Alacy Norman, Zoey Lawing, Kyndall Norman, Celie Lawing and Hunter Caines; her sister-in-law, Ruby Loflin of High Point; several nieces and nephews including special nieces, Lib Mills, Carol Hodgins and Patricia Hussy. Also surviving is her pet companion, Andy.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today (Oct. 26) at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. J.C. Alley and the Rev. Ken Evans officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Cemetery. The family received friends Friday at the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.

The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to her home caregivers, Debora Marshall, Debbie Caswell and Patricia Caswell for the loving care Juanita received during her illness. Also a special thanks to the incredible staff of Hospice of the Piedmont.

Memorial contributions may be made in Juanita’s honor  to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Dr., High Point, NC 27262.

Robert Mode
LEXINGTON — Robert Lewis Mode died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at the Hinkle Hospice House.
A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28,  at the First Baptist Church in Lexington. A private service will be held at a later date. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27,  at Davidson Funeral Home.

 

Curby Simerson Sr.
LEXINGTON — Curby Lee Simerson Sr., 66, of Simerson Road, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at his home.
A celebration of life service  will be at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27,  at the fellowship hall of Tyro United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the home.

 

'Ryan' Simmons

ARCHDALE — Billy “Ryan” Simmons, 18, died Monday, Oct. 21, 2013.

The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, in Full Gospel Freewill Holiness Church.  Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today (Oct. 26)  at J. C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville.

 

Mary Tetter

LEXINGTON — Mary Margaret Lanning Tetter, 86,  died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Health - Lexington Medical Center.

The funeral was held Thurday, Oct. 24, at Shiloh United Methodist Church. Burial followed at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery. Davidson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Nathaniel Washington

THOMASVILLE — Nathaniel Washington, 82, died on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013 at Pine Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Visitation will be held at 11:30 a.m. today (Oct. 26)  at the Chapel of Johnson and Sons Funeral Home, 206 Fourth St., High Point. The funeral service will begin at noon.
