LEESBURG, VA — Gary F. Boggs, 76, passed away at his Virginia home, where he had lived since 1964.
Born in Thomasville, he leaves behind many friends and family. After graduating from Pilot High School, he joined the USAF and worked as an air traffic controller.
Gary lived on his own terms and enjoyed life. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and had a love for cooking.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Ethel and Banner Boggs and sister, Shirley Boggs Elliott of Thomasville. He is survived by his nephew, James R. Elliott, Jr. and wife Debbie of Thomasville; two nieces, Andrea O’ Connor and husband Dan of Dallas, Ga.; and Jerri McDonald and husband Mark of Thomasville.
Gary was a member of the Moose Lodge, the American Legion and Elks clubs.
A celebration of life service will be held 2-5 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at the Leesburg Moose Lodge. Memorials may be made to the Brunswick Moose Lodge 401 E. Potomac St., Brunswick, MD 21716-1625.
LINWOOD — Mrs. Lois Edwina Beam Carpenter, 81, was carried away by angels to meet her Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 3, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center.
A resident of this area all of her life, Lois was born on October 6, 1932 in Davidson County to the late Ralph and Hilda Everhart Beam. Lois had worked for many years in the furniture industry and was a member of Meadowview Deliverance Tabernacle in Lexington. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by husbands, Donald Redwine, John Crabb, and Ray Carpenter.
Surviving are her children, Hilda Moose and Husband Wayne of Lexington, Connie Hunt of Lexington, and Sherry Lowman of Lexington; nine grandchildren, Susan Cabe, Danyale Cabe, Clayton “Tater” Jones and his wife Angela, Curtis Alford, Marty Alford, Chris Alford, Travis Moose and his wife Meghan, Tyler Moose and his fiancé McKenzie Harrington, and Tabitha Moose-England and her husband Evan; twelve great grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Also surviving are her sister, Marcelene Harper and her husband Leroy of Thomasville; her brother, Larry beam of Midway; and two special friends, Debbie Daniels and Julie Wooleyhan.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Emma Milam officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the cemetery and other times at the home of Hilda Moose.

LEXINGTON – Judith Kimbrell Phillips, 65, died Tuesday, March 5, 2014, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington is serving the family.

DENTON — Johnny Harris Shaw Sr., 66, died Monday, March 3, 2014 at Randolph Hospice House.

THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Betty Jane Oliver Souders, 69, a resident of Old US Highway 29, died Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at her home.
She was born on April 29, 1944 in Jefferson County, Louisville, Ky. to Hollis Laymen Oliver and Ruth Bauer Oliver. She retired in 2002 from Lorillard Tobacco Company and attended First United Methodist Church in Thomasville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, David Oliver.
Surviving are her son, Jerry Lee Newsome of the home; daughters, Debra “Debbie” Young and husband Philip and Patricia “Patty” Ann Hughes, all of Thomasville; six grandchildren, Stephen Philip Young, Amber Nicole Young, Tara Nichelle Hughes, Ryan Scott Hughes, Stephanie Leigh Hardin, and Edna Nichole Newsome; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cris Uren officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Souders will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and at other times at the home.
