THOMASVILLE — John (Billy) Willis Barnes, 77, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Thomasville Medical Center.
The funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, April 19, in Christian Life Freewill Baptist Church, Old Hwy 29. Mr. Barnes will remain at J C Green and Sons Funeral Home until taken to the church an hour prior to service. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
THOMASVILLE — Sallie Bullard Carroll, 86, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at her home.
The funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, April 19, at Hillside Park Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 18, at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville.
WINSTON-SALEM— Peggie Royster Jones Corby, 92, a resident of Mallard Ridge Assisted Living, passed away on April 13, 2014, Palm Sunday after a lengthy period of declining health.
She was born in Pacolet, South Carolina on November 3, 1921 and grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina. She was a resident of the Ardmore Community in Winston-Salem for over sixty years.
Mrs. Corby studied organ at Women’s College in Greensboro, NC (now the University of NC at Greensboro) and graduated from Meredith College in Raleigh in 1942 with a degree in music and piano. Her first job was teaching piano at the NC School for the Deaf and Blind. She went on to teach piano and organ lessons and was devoted to her students as well as to her work as an organist. She was the organist at Memorial Methodist Church in Thomasville for many years.
Mrs. Corby was very active in the Winston-Salem community and was a life-long member of the Woman’s Club of Winston-Salem, the Thursday Morning Music Club of Winston-Salem, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She also loved sharing her time volunteering with her church, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and with her friends at the Shepherd’s Center.
Peggie Corby is predeceased by her husband of over 50 years, Leonard George Corby, and her brother, Adam Crane Jones Jr., and is survived by nieces, Janey House of Greenville, SC, Peggy Roland of Augusta, Ga., and Jacky Starnes of Jacksonville, Fla.; her nephew, Adam Crane Jones III; seven great nieces and nephews; five great-great nephews; and two honorary daughters, Jane Leonard and Julia Floyd.
The funeral service will be held Friday, April 25, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 520 Summit St., Winston-Salem. A reception will follow followed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the student scholarship fund for the Thursday Morning Music Club and sent to Phebe Kirkman, 101 Brampton Court, Winston-Salem, NC 27106. Memorials may also be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 520 Summit St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101.

TRINITY — Tildon George Floyd (Slab Man), 84, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014.
The funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at High Rock Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Cid United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will be at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 18.
LEXINGTON — Martha Tysinger Perryman, 77, died Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Wake Forest Baptist Health – Lexington Medical Center.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home.
THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Barbara Ann Hardy Poindexter, age 73, of Thomasville passed away unexpectedly at her home on April 9, 2014.
She was born in Surry County on August 12, 1940 to the late Archie and Eula Key Hardy. Mrs. Poindexter was a self employed Merchant and well known for her beautiful artwork and poetry.
Survivors include her loving children, Sandra Laney, Karen and husband Timothy Vogler, Beverly and husband Mark Bauman and Jennifer Brinkman; thirteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a sister, Jeanene and husband Jim Terry; and her best friend “Sugar.” A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Mount Herman Baptist Church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mount Herman Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Andrea Chaney, 319 West Mount Herman Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
