THOMASVILLE — Edna Marie Avant Barth, age 80, of Thomasville and a native of Columbus County died Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Hospice Haven of Rockingham.
Final rites were held Thursday, June 5, at Worthington Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Flynn Cemetery, Whiteville.
She was the daughter of the late Rufus and Mary Alma Martin Avant and the widow of Audrey Edward White.
She is survived by a daughter, Wanda White Moore and husband, Ronald of Rockingham; two sisters, Ethel Avant Roper of Whiteville and Carolyn Avant Hamilton of Franklin, GA.; four brothers, James Avant of El Paso, TX, Rufus Avant of Roanoke, AL, Jack Wayne Avant of Caledonia, MS, and Clayton Avant of Thomasville; and a granddaughter, Audra Norris of New York.
Worthington Funeral Home assisted the family.
THOMASVILLE — Mr. John Jerome Collett, Jr., 81, a resident of Thomasville, died Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at his residence.
He was born July 31, 1932 in Davidson County, a son of John Jerome Collett and Fleta Green Collett. He was a graduate of Fairgrove High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in animal science from North Carolina State University.
Mr. Collett was a veteran commissioned officer in the U.S. Army. He was a self-employed dairy and tobacco farmer. He was a member of the N.C. Grange and was a charter member of the Board of Directors for the Bank of North Carolina. Mr. Collett was a lifelong active member of Memorial United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Ann Hay and brothers, Ralph Collett and Harrell Collett.
On June 20, 1954 he was married to Carolyn Briggs who survives of the home. Also surviving are a daughter, Lynne Collett Streetman and husband Jim of Mooresville; a son, John Collett, III and wife Kay of Thomasville; grandchildren, John Charles Collett and wife Amanda of Thomasville, Ashlin Streetman Henderson and husband J.P. of Ohio and Kenley Streetman of Mooresville and a great-grandson Briggs Henderson; sister-in-law, Jessie Collett and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 3 p.m. in Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Peggy Finch officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Collett will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until taken to the church thirty minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and other times at the home.

The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, June 8, at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, 122 West Main St. Thomasville. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today (June 7). and others times at the home.
ASHEBORO — Billy James Hill, 42, died Tuesday, June 3, 2014, the result of an automobile accident.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. today (June 7) at Summerville Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the First Baptist Church Cemetery in Denton. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 6, at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton.
LEXINGTON — Kenneth Wayne McNaron, 29, died June 5, 2014, at Hinkle Hospice House.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at High Rock Church of Lexington. The family will receive friends at the home. Davidson Funeral Home is serving the family.

The funeral was held Friday, June 6, at Prominence Funeral Home.
LEXINGTON — Odessa Kathleen Jarrett Sexton, 85, died Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at Pine Ridge Health and Rehabilitation. The funeral service was held on Friday, June 6, at J. C. Green and Sons Chapel in Thomasville. Interment followed in Clarksbury United Methodist Church cemetery.

DENTON — Charles “Randy” Tate, Jr., 33, died Tuesday, June 3, 2014.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. today (June 7) at High Rock Community Church, 7800 Bringle Ferry Road in Salisbury. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Denton. J. C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville is serving the family.
