LEXINGTON — Mattie Evelee Robertson Crawford , 77,  died Tuesday June 10, 2014 at Wake Forest Baptist University Lexington Medical Center.

The funeral service will be held 3 p.m.today (June 14) at First Baptist Church Welcome. Davidson Funeral Home is serving the family.

 

Samuel Jones

LEXINGTON — Samuel Harold Jones, 83, died Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Wake Forest Baptist Health – Lexington Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday, June 15,  at Madison Heights Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. prior to the service and other times at the home.

 

Louise P. Ferguson

LEXINGTON — Louise Price Ferguson died Monday, June 9, 2014, at Piedmont Crossing in Thomasville.

A memorial service was held Thursday, June 12, in Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel.

 

Johnny Hughes 

CONNELLY SPRINGS, NC — Mr. Johnny Jack Hughes, Sr., 82, of 5288 Miller Bridge Rd, Connelly Springs NC, of the Baptist faith, passed away at his residence June 10, 2014, after being hospitalized at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

Johnny was born July 21, 1931, in Bakersville NC, son of Mose Garland Hughes (April 13, 1892 - September 24, 1980) and Bessie Mosley Hughes (May 22, 1893 - June 27, 1969).

Johnny was also preceded in death, by a loving son, Johnny Jack Hughes Jr., of Florida.

Surviving Johnny is a loving wife and companion of over 32 years, Cheryl Deanna North Hughes of Connelly Springs NC. Loving children; Toni and Mike Bailey of Fletcher NC, Marina and Robbie Collins of Valdese NC, Deidre and Todd McGlynn of Hebron CT, Cindy and Clay Hile of Black Mountain NC, and Matthew Hughes of Morganton NC. Grandchildren; Ryan and Rebecca Hughes, Stephanie and Kyle Bowen, Meagan and Dave Robles, Bre Bailey, Terry and Sandy Hensley, Jamie Hensley, Katrina McGlynn, Alec Hile, Eli Hile, Isabella Hile, and Dalton Hughes. Nine great grandchildren; Sawyer “John” Hughes, Harper Hughes, Kinsley Bowen, Keegan Bowen, Haven Pruitt, Shawn Hensley, Hailey Hensley, Jaxson Hensley, and the ninth grandchild soon to be of Meagan and Dave Robles.

Also - he is preceded by eight wonderful siblings; Beulah Sparks, Hazel Hughes Albright, Mary Hughes Young, Jessie Hughes, Willard “Bud” Hughes, Ray Hughes, Wanda “Faye” Brown, and Billie Joe Hughes.

The extended family also includes many caring uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Johnny has very special in-laws; Marilyn “Dee” North (mother in-law), Tammy Viar (sister in-law), Ken North (brother in-law) and Steve North (brother in-law).

He has very close friends that he considers family - such as: Bill and Janie Robinson, The Ned Taylor Family, Jeff and Amy Brotherton and Wendie Whitton. Johnny considered anyone that walked through his doors as family - as that was how big his heart was - never excluding anyone - in anyway.

He was a beloved husband, father, son and friend to many. He will be greatly missed, cherished and loved every single second of every single day.

His love of music, western movies, crime novels and sports will forever be with us every time we hear - see or read any of his favorite things in life.

Johnny was also recognized as a veteran of the United States Air Force and we would like to honor him and thank him for his service to our country. He also served within the State Government as a special Securities Police Officer at UNC Asheville. where he first met Cheryl - the love of his life.

Receiving of friends and family will be held at the residence, 5288 Miller Bridge Road, Connelly Springs, NC. 28612 on Sunday, June 15th, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Then following the receiving of friends and family, the Graveside Service will also be held at the residence at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Douglas Goforth officiating and Military Honors by the N.C. National Guard.

Immediately following the funeral we will have a Celebration of Life Ceremony at the residence.

THOMASVILLE —Christine Gibson Johnson, 63, died Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. today (June 14) at 215 Sante Fe Drive, Thomasville.

THOMASVILLE — Charles Quick, 74, died Sunday, June 8, 2014, at the W. G. "Bill" Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury.  A memorial service will be held during worship at 11 a.m.  Sunday, June 15 at First Presbyterian Church in Thomasville.

 

Jesse Smith

LEXINGTON — Jesse James Smith, 70, died Tuesday June 10, 2014, at Select Specialty Hospital at Forsyth Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today (June 14) at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel.

 

Doris Younts

THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Doris Brinkley Younts, 91, a resident of Kure Beach and formerly of Edgewood Ave. in Thomasville, died Friday, June 13, 2014 at The Laurels of Salisbury.

She was born on March 16, 1923 in Davidson County, NC to Robert Ellis Brinkley and Lucy Pope Brinkley.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Davidson County Homemakers Association.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she served in the United Methodist Women.

She was an artist and member of the Red Hat Society.  She loved the ocean in the later years of her life.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Younts on August 26, 1998; son, Charles Michael Younts; sister, Edna Tysinger; and brothers, Bobby and Rayford Brinkley.

Surviving are her daughter, Judy Younts of Thomasville; son, Mark Younts and wife Ethel of Salisbury; brother, Reverend Van Brinkley and wife Ida of Thomasville; grandchildren, Sloan Ponder, Bryer Younts, Bo Younts, Sara Younts, Israel Melton, and Nathan Melton; and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 3:00 PM at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Cris Uren officiating.  Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Saturday one hour prior to the service from 2:00 to 3:00 at the church.  Mrs. Younts will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the visitation.

The family would like to express a special thank you to caregivers, Essie Mae Long, Gayle Puckett, Pat Jones, and The Laurels of Salisbury for their loving care.
