Frances Farrington
HIGH POINT — Frances Elizabeth Farrington, resident of River Landing at Sandy Ridge, died July 1, 2013 at her residence.
Mrs. Farrington was born December 18, 1930 in King’s Mountain, NC, a daughter to the late Hoyt and Katie Tate.  She graduated from St. Leo’s School of Nursing in Greensboro, NC and passed her State Nursing Boards in the summer of 1951 but had to wait until her 21st  birthday to receive her license.  She was employed at Duke University Hospital where she quickly became head nurse of Holmes ward.  She met her future husband in the cafeteria of Duke Hospital and they were married June 6, 1954.  They were blessed with four wonderful children, Mari Katherine, Elizabeth Anne, John Kirby, Jr and Teresa Lynn.  She was predeceased by her son, John Kirby Farrington, Jr.  They also have four grandchildren: Ryan Baily Farrington, John Kirby Farrington, III, Lindsay Marie Blackburn and Katherine Baily Blackburn.
Fran was a Girl Scout cookie chairman for her children’s Girl Scout Troop for 12 years and was long time chairman of the Dogwood Room at the High Point Furniture Market for the Hospital Guild.
Although she was a very poor swimmer herself, she was a nationally certified AAU swimming Stroke and Turn Judge.  She had countless friends in ladies golf and had four holes in one over her lifetime. She and her husband enjoyed many trips to Europe, Canada and all over North America to play in couple’s golf.  Her best round of golf was a 78 at Oak Hollow in the High Point City Tournament.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dr. John Kirby Farrington.  In addition to her husband, children and grandchildren, she  also is survived by two siblings, Barbara Tate Beasley and Ray Tate and a daughter in law, Molly Gundy Farrington.
A private family burial was held Tuesday July, 2, 2013.  A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013, in the multipurpose room at River Landing at Sandy Ridge in Colfax, NC.  Visitation followed the service.
The family requests donations be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Dr. High Point, NC 27262 or to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Piedmont, 200 N. Main St. High Point, NC 27262 or any charity of your choice.  Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point is assisting the family.

LINWOOD — Cathy Lynn Forrest, 49, of Hwy 150 Linwood, died Sunday, June 30, 2013.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Yadkin Baptist Church Cemetery in Rowan County.

Leo Franks
DENTON — Mr. Leo Watson Franks, age 82 of Johnson Road, Denton, died Monday, July 1 at Thomasville Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel.  Burial will follow with Military Honors at Tom’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
