Obituary: Mindi Shawn Swaney

Dec. 27, 2013 @ 02:38 PM

Mindi Shawn Swaney, 32, of Thomasville, North Carolina ended her 19 year struggle with an eating disorder on December 25, 2013.

Mindi was born on April 19, 1981 to Roger Steven Swaney and Kathy Brinkley Swaney.  Mindi was a 2006 honor graduate of High Point University with a degree in psychology.  She had a passion for books, music, people and coffee, not necessarily in that order.  For the past several years, she has been partners with her dad at Monkeez Brew Coffee Shop.  With her contagious smile and love for people, she would not just make your coffee, but make your day!

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Boyd (Jack) and Donnie Swaney.

Surviving are her parents, Steve and Kathy Swaney of Thomasville; brother, Monty Steven Swaney of New York; maternal grandparents, G. Clifton and Marion Brinkley of Thomasville; uncle, Eddie Brinkley and wife Gloria of Thomasville; cousins, Chad Brinkley and wife Laura and Beth Rollins and husband Matt, including their children, Jackson, Sawyer, and Dawson Brinkley as well as Levi, Asher, and Maggie Rollins, all of Thomasville.

Mindi leaves behind her beloved Monkeez Brew family and many other friends and family.

A Celebration of Life Service for Mindi will be held at Rich Fork Baptist Church on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at 2:00 pm officiated by the Reverend Michael Bowers with interment to follow in the church cemetery.

Per Mindi’s wishes, the family will be accepting friends and family for coffee in the vestibule of the church following the interment. Mindi will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until taken to the church one hour prior to the service.

The Swaney family requests that memorial contributions be designated to Rich Fork Baptist Church Media Center, 3993 Old Hwy. 29, Thomasville, NC 27360 or National Eating Disorder Association, 165 West 46th Street, Suite 402, New York, NY 10036.
