Gary Boggs

LEESBURG, VA — Gary F. Boggs, 76, passed away at his Virginia home, where he had lived since 1964.

Born in Thomasville, he leaves behind many friends and family. After graduating from Pilot High School, he joined the USAF and worked as an air traffic controller.

Gary lived on his own terms and enjoyed life. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and had a love for cooking.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Ethel and Banner Boggs and sister, Shirley Boggs Elliott of Thomasville. He is survived by his nephew, James R. Elliott, Jr. and wife Debbie of Thomasville; two nieces, Andrea O’ Connor and husband Dan of Dallas, Ga.; and Jerri McDonald and husband Mark of Thomasville.

Gary was a member of the Moose Lodge, the American Legion and Elks clubs.

A celebration of life service will be held 2-5 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at the Leesburg Moose Lodge. Memorials may be made to the Brunswick Moose Lodge 401 E. Potomac St., Brunswick, MD 21716-1625. 


Clarence Buie

DENTON — Clarence Austin Buie Jr., 65, died Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Wake Forest University - Lexington Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. today (March 8) at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. The family will receive from 1 to 2:30 p.m. prior to the service.


Richard Dallas Sr.

THOMASVILLE —  Richard David Dallas Sr., 61, died on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at his residence.

A memorial service was held Friday, March 7,  at Cornerstone Church of Christ. Prominence Funeral Home is serving the Dallas family.

THOMASVILLE – Ermine “Boonsie” Hines, 50, died Monday, March 3, 2014, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

The funeral service will be held at noon today (March 8) at Union Baptist Church.  S.E. Thomas Funeral & Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.


Judy Phillips

LEXINGTON – Judith Kimbrell Phillips, 65, died Tuesday, March 5, 2014, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park.   Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington is serving the family.


Johnny Shaw Sr.

DENTON — Johnny Harris Shaw Sr., 66, died Monday, March 3, 2014 at Randolph Hospice House.

The family will receive friends at 167 Arnolds Farm Lane inLexington. Briggs Funeral Home in Denton is serving the family.


Betty Souders

THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Betty Jane Oliver Souders, 69, a resident of Old US Highway 29, died Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at her home.

She was born on April 29, 1944 in Jefferson County, Louisville, Ky. to Hollis Laymen Oliver and Ruth Bauer Oliver.  She retired in 2002 from Lorillard Tobacco Company and attended First United Methodist Church in Thomasville.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, David Oliver.

Surviving are her son, Jerry Lee Newsome of the home; daughters, Debra “Debbie” Young and husband Philip and Patricia “Patty” Ann Hughes, all of Thomasville; six grandchildren, Stephen Philip Young, Amber Nicole Young, Tara Nichelle Hughes, Ryan Scott Hughes, Stephanie Leigh Hardin, and Edna Nichole Newsome; and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 9, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cris Uren officiating.  Interment followed in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville assisted the family.

KERNERSVILLE – Mary Madelene Hoover Stokes, 89, died Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Hospice of the Piedmont in High Point.

The  funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, March 10, at Clifton Grove Baptist Church.  The family will receive friends at  the church 30 minutes before the funeral service.  S E. Thomas Funeral & Cremation  Service is in charge of arrangements.

LEXINGTON — Troy William Swicegood, 19,  died Monday, March 3, 2014, at Novant HealthThomasville Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 9,  at Reeds United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Sandy Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at Davidson Funeral Home.


Jack Trantham

LEXINGTON — Lloyd Jack Trantham Jr., 60,  died Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Winston-Salem Rehabilitation Health Care.

The funeral was held Friday, March 7,  at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Lexington City Cemetery.


Judith Traynham

HIGH POINT — Judith Traynham, 66, of High Point, went to eternal rest on Friday, February 28, 2014, at Hospice of the Piedmont.

She was surrounded by family members after a long struggle with cancer.  Judith was born April 29, 1947, in Charlotte NC to Helen and Grayson Davis.  She was a graduate of Garinger High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she studied Art History. 

Family meant the world to Judith.  She enjoyed having them over for dinners as she loved to cook, taking walks with her grandchildren down to the creek and enjoying special moments with her husband.  Judith was an avid reader, enjoyed planting and gardening and working on crossword puzzles.

Judith is survived by her husband of 19 years, David Anthony Traynham and her oldest son James Bryan McMillan III, his wife Linda and their sons Mason and Owen; her youngest son Adam Yeats McMillan, his wife Jennifer and their daughter Abigail.

Judith’s memorial service was held on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Salem Funeral Home.

WINSTON-SALEM — Emma Jean Beck Walton, 84,  died Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at Trinity Elms in Clemmons.
