Kanoy Road closes due to pipe failure

Environmental assessment must be made

The N.C. Department of Transportation has closed Kanoy Road near its intersection with Sallie Drive in Thomasville due to a pipe failure.

A crossline pipe carrying an unnamed tributary of Hunts Fork Creek under Kanoy Road has failed and the road is no longer safe for vehicular traffic. Because a creek runs through the pipe, an environmental assessment must be made before work to repair the pipe can begin.

At this time, the road is expected to reopen by Wednesday, April 23.  This date is subject to change based on a review of environmental and utility impacts.

During the closure, motorists will use Old Greensboro Road, Evans Road and Business 85 / U.S. 29-70 as the signed detour route.
