New look reaffirms commitment to be ‘remarkable’

A celebration Wednesday transformed the Chair City’s jewel into Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center. The hospital officially bore the brand of the aubergine-clad Novant Health team for the first time.
Kathie Johnson, president of the renamed Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center described what the fresh look means for the community.
"TMC has been part of Novant Health since 1998, so that part is not new," Johnson said. "The question we always got is, 'What is Novant? Where is Novant? How do I know I'm in Novant?' So the significance of the branding is that we'll be able to help all of our patients to find us in all our different locations and settings.”
New signage was unveiled at all acute care facilities throughout the Novant system, and visual changes included new imagery on parking gates, campus flags and over street walkways. Inside the hospital, posters, billboards, balloon arches, cafe and gift shop decorations were on display.
These changes will be reflected for a month, as the facility will remain lit during evening hours.
Novant has 13 hospitals, 350 physician practices and more than 24,000 employees in four states. Johnson emphasized that all of those facilities are dedicated to providing a “remarkable” patient experience.
"We're really excited about it,” she added. “It's a real modern-looking brand that reflects our new promise, which is to provide the remarkable patient experience that is very up-to-date in terms of technology and the care we provide,” Johnson said. “Also, we want to be very patient-centered in giving the patients the care they want, when they want, where they want it.”
Kenneth Griffin, president of Inheritance Financial Coaching and member of the Thomasville Medical Center Foundation,  praised the steps taken to rebrand the facility. He believes the progress of the medical center will lead to future community investment, mentioning a large office space already under development near Novant Health TMC.
"Being a part of the Thomasville community over the last seven years as a businessman and citizen, the growth of services in the Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center has been amazing," said Griffin. "The Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center is positioned to transform the city and lives of the citizens. We are going to see more growth and investment in the Thomasville area over the next 10 years, specifically in the area around the Medical Center.
"I am excited to be a part of the renaissance of Thomasville and changing a generation one family at a time."
Over the past several years, Novant Health has initiated a series of strategic steps to transform the patient experience and deliver remarkable care.  Beginning with the Codman Award-winning hand washing campaign in 2005, which focused on the safety of patients and invited them to have a voice in their care, the organization embarked on a concerted effort to create a remarkable patient experience.
Three years later, MRSA infections were down 63 percent, more than 3,000 hospitals around the world had emulated the program, and patients were clear that they had a voice in their care at Novant Health facilities. Since then, Novant Health has focused on transforming healthcare to create an experience that allows patients to focus on getting better and staying healthy.
Since September 2010, Novant Health facilities have screened all admitted patients for type 2 diabetes. This “search and rescue” program has diagnosed nearly 5,000 people with previously undiagnosed diabetes.
Another step in this strategic plan includes open access for patients. Real-time online appointment scheduling, e-visits, and collaborative patient-clinician care are all part of the unified system strategy.
