Danzn in the streets

Brittany Creasey will remember this summer forever. What she will remember most is dancing down the streets in front of the castle of a Magic Kingdom.

Hailey Nance will remember meeting Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, Donald, Pluto and Goofy.

The best part –  it wasn’t a dream.

An elite group of 10 dancers from the N2Danzn studio in Thomasville checked into the Magic Kingdom June 28 to participate in Dance The World.

As they arrived, a sign at the entrance of the magical kingdom read "Walt Disney World — where dreams come true!"

N2Danzn was one of only two studios from North Carolina that participated in Dance The World at Walt Disney's Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. The event drew dancers from across the United States, Canada and Mexico. Participants danced in front of thousands as they joined in parades down Main Street U.S.A.

For the night-time Electric Parade, the dancers wore costumes enhanced with fiber optic lights.

In addition to Creasey and Nance, others who made the trip included Kathryn Figgatt,

Sydney Holt, Jessica Hughes, Breyanna Hulin, Milly Padilla, Adessa Robbins, Georgia Stanley and Zoe Stowe.

The girls’ families, including some grandparents, made the trip to Florida with them.

At the end of the week there was a private farewell gala held on a Disney property that included several of the Disney Characters for an evening of dance and fellowship.  N2Danzn owner Paige Wainright has escorted groups to Disney plenty of times during her 12 years in operation, but for some of the dancers it was their first trip. She feels that the experience taught them more than they could learn within the confines of the dance studio.

“Performing in a Walt Disney World Parade in front of spectators from all over the world is definitely a memorable experience,” she said. “The students were able to see from behind the scenes the amount of work, time and effort expended by those who pursue careers in this particular field.”

The event provided some pretty memorable experiences for Wainright as well.

“As their director, I most enjoyed the excitement that radiated from them as they opened the doors for them to begin their parade routine into the park. The smiles they had as they heard their introduction were priceless!  Being able to dance with Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, Donald, Pluto, and Goofy at the conclusion of the week was pretty memorable too!

“Several students were first time [Disney] visitors, so the fact I was able to share something so memorable — in so many ways for them — was the highlight of my summer. That, and receiving an award from Mickey and Minnie, of course!”

When the dancers weren’t practicing and dancing in parades, they got the chance to visit all the Walt Disney World Parks. Sydney Holt can’t wait to go back. “It was the highlight of my summer. Best trip ever!!” she said.
