Thomasville City Schools Board of Education elected two of its veterans to serve as chairperson and vice chairperson for the upcoming year.

Crystal Hodges, entering her sixth and final year on the board, returns as chairperson while Belinda Clark will serve as vice chairperson. Hodges and Clark were unanimous choices for the five-member board at its July 9 meeting.

"It's an enormous responsibility and it's one that I do not take lightly," Hodges said.  "I can speak for the rest of the board in saying we do not at all take our positions lightly. City council has faith in us to do the job we were appointed to do."

Hodges is the senior member of the TCS board and will serve as chairperson for a second straight year. The board is in the process of finding a new superintendent, and Hodges said the key is to hire a person who will continue moving TCS forward. Georgia Marshall, TCS chief administrator, is serving as interim superintendent as the board continues the interview process.

"The search is going well," said Hodges. "We just have to find the right person to put in place to help our administrators and give them the support they need. We're moving right along in that direction and looking forward to who our next superintendent will be. In the meantime, we have Miss Marshall and we have not missed a beat."

City council appointed Clark to her third term this year. She said her focus will continue to be on ensuring administrators, principals and teachers have everything they need to be successful.

"This is one of the boards I enjoy the most because it's about helping children," Clark said. "We definitely have the children in our best interests. For us, we have such great administrators that we don't have to worry about the everyday running of the schools. Everyone is doing exactly what they're supposed to be doing."
