Silver Valley man shot, killed
An investigation continues in the June 20 death of a man from Silver Valley, according to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office.
Carl Lewis Swaney, 48, was discovered by deputies with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office on Hill Road after officers reported to a call to the 911 Center received at 10:08 p.m. The call concerned a possible shooting at the residence, located near the intersection of Hill and Old U.S. Highway 64 East, where deputies found Swaney’s body.
The first deputy on the scene reportedly found the victim lying on his front porch with an apparent sustained gunshot wound to his upper torso.
EMS personnel confirmed Swaney’s death at the scene, setting off an investigation by Sheriff David Grice, deputies, detectives and crime scene personnel. According to a release, detectives made contact with District Attorney Garry Frank and a suspect had been questioned and released. No further comment was available.
Swaney’s body was transported to the medical examiner’s office on Monday for an autopsy. According to Grice, the results of the autopsy revealed conclusively that the victim died of a gunshot wound, but he was unable to provide further details of the ongoing investigation.
Grice said those details will be made available after his office has had an opportunity to conduct interviews and discuss the results with the district attorney. At that time, charges may be filed.
