Charges filed in lawnmower fatality
The State Highway Patrol filed charges Tuesday against a Thomasville motorist in connection to the death of a Chair City man killed while mowing his grass.
According to documents obtained from the Davidson County Clerk of Courts Office, Edward Glenn Burcham, 50, of 1294 Black Lake Road, was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and driving left of center.
Trooper J.W. Boozer stated in an arrest citation that Burcham "unintentionally caused the death of Bobby Wayne Lambert....by failing to drive said vehicle upon the right half of the highway that was of sufficient width for more than one lane of traffic."
Lambert, 73, of 6919 E. Holly Grove Road, died on April 30 after being struck by Burcham's truck. Burcham told investigators he swerved to avoid a dog and hit Lambert, who was riding a lawnmower in his yard. Trooper M.A. Leonard said Lambert, who died at the scene, was well off the road when he got hit. Burcham was not injured.
Burcham was issued a $10,000 unsecured bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 10.
