Deputies seize $29,000 in vehicle

Driver denies ownership of the cash

A 26-year-old Texas man was stopped March 26 by the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office Interstate Criminal Enforcement Unit. Some $29,000 in cash was found and seized.
At approximately 5:30 p.m. a 2005 Dodge truck on Interstate 85 South at mile marker 91 in Lexington was stopped for a traffic violation,  impeding the flow of traffic.
The vehicle displayed California registration and was driven by Dennie Andy Keophimanh, 26, of 3234 Ferncrest Court, Grand Prairie, Texas.
A K-9 scan of the vehicle provided a positive alert for the presence of narcotics. Deputies conducted a probable cause search found three bags or 15 bundles of currency totaling $29,000.
According to a press release, the driver and sole occupant, Dennie Keophimanh, denied ownership of the currency but did admit to recently smoking marijuana in his vehicle with a friend.
The currency was seized pending further investigation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Keophimanh was issued a written warning and released.
