A 44-year-old man died on Christmas Day after a single-vehicle accident on Lake Road in Thomasville.

Robbie Campbell was driving alone about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday when he ran off the side of the roadway, said State Highway Patrol Trooper R.T. Simmons. Campbell apparently tried to steer back onto the road. The vehicle then flipped and hit a utility pole.

Campbell, of Thomasville, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Simmons told The High Point Enterprise that speed was a factor in the wreck. The speed limit on Lake Road where the accident happened is 55 mph, and the trooper estimates the car reached speeds of 75 mph.
