Police searching for armed robbery suspect
Thomasville Police Department is searching for a armed robbery suspect who stole a woman's car.
According to a TPD press release, officers responded to Just Save, 1418 National Highway, at 8:54 p.m. Thursday night in reference to a robbery. The victim told police that as she was loading groceries into her car, a thin, black man with a mask covering his face approached her. She got into her vehicle and was followed by the suspect, who brandished a handgun and demanded her pocket book.
The woman screamed, getting the attention of two patrons leaving the store. The men confronted the suspect, giving the victim time to run to safety. When approached by the men, the suspect fled the scene in the victim's vehicle, which was found a short time later behind Sebastian Mattress, 1432 National Highway.
"Two people leaving the store hear her scream," Detective Brad Saintsing said. "They walk over to the car and the suspect points the gun at them. By this time, the woman gets out of the car and flees toward the two patrons. [The suspect] jumps from the back seat of the car into the front seat and takes off in the victim's vehicle."
The suspect is described as approximately 6 feet tall, weighing around 140 pounds, between 20 and 30 years old. He was wearing a black sweatshirt, dark pants and a mask.
"We are very fortunate no one was injured," said Saintsing. "[The victim] is fine. She was shaken up a little but she handled it pretty well and was convey a pretty good description to investigators. We're following some leads now."
Anyone with information or remembers seeing a suspicious person walking around the area of Just Save that matches the suspect's description is asked to call TPD at 475-4286 or Crime Stoppers of Thomasville at 476-8477.
