Filing for November election open through July 19
Municipal filings for this November's election opened today.
Thomasville voters are facing a full ballot this year as the mayor and all seven city council positions are up for election.
Filing started today at noon at the Davidson County Board of Elections office, 945 N. Main St. in Lexington, and will run through July 19. Candidates must be 21 years old and live in Thomasville to run for public office. There also is a $10 filing fee.
"If they want to be file they need to be a registered voter and 21 years of age," said Ruth Huneycutt, director of the Davidson County Board of Elections. "They must live in the city they want to file for."
Thomasville's elected officials serve non-staggering, two-year terms following a referendum in 2003. Incumbent Mayor Joe Bennett and council members Raleigh York, Joel Pierce, Jackie Jackson, Pat Shelton, Neal Grimes, Scott Styers and Ronald Bratton are serving their two-year terms from the 2011 election.
"All seven seats [on council] and the mayor are up this year," Huneycutt said.
Election Day is Nov. 5.
