Thomasville Middle School was evacuated Wednesday morning after a custodian discovered a bomb threat.
According to a Thomasville Police Department press release, a TMS custodian found a bomb threat written on a bathroom wall at approximately 9 a.m. The custodian notified school officials, who elected to evacuate students to the T. Austin Finch Auditorium while police checked the building.
"In cases like this, you have to take it seriously," Thomasville City Schools Superintendent Keith Tobin said. "We just want to make sure we make decisions to keep our students safe. We cleared the building just to be sure."
Students returned to class about an hour later. Police are working several leads in an attempt to identify the person responsible.
Anyone with information is asked to call TPD at 475-4286 or Crime Stoppers of Thomasville at 476-8477. A reward is being offered for any information leading to the identification of the person responsible for the threat.
"I'm taking this very seriously and I want to find out who did this," said Tobin.
Tobin said it's TCS policy to evacuate students at TMS and Thomasville High School to the neighboring auditorium if possible.
