Thomasville police are searching for a bank robbery suspect who likely is covered in burgundy dye.

According to a press release, a man displaying a firearm entered First Bank at 22 Winston St. about 9:11 a.m. Tuesday and demanded money. After given an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect fled on foot.

Police said an exploded burgundy dye pack and money were found in the roadway near the intersection of Highland Avenue.

Police described the man as black, wearing a light gray or white sweatshirt, a dark hoodie and a ball cap underneath the hood. He is thought to be about 5 feet 9 inches and between 30 and 40 years old.

"This is the first bank robbery of the year," said Sgt. Brad Saintsing. "We do have some leads we are investigating."

Two bank robberies in 2012 were solved by arrests, he said. No bank robberies were reported in 2013.

In the First Bank robbery, no employees or customers were injured, Saintsing said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Thomasville police at 475-4286 or Crime Stoppers at 476-8477.
