Man wanted in connection to Brinks theft

A Lexington man is wanted in connection to missing money discovered after a Brinks armored truck wrecked in November.
Davidson County Sheriff's Office issued an arrest warrant Tuesday for Thomas Eugene Strange, 37, of 272 Westgate Court 2, for felony larceny stemming from an investigation into the Nov. 6 two-vehicle wreck involving a Brinks truck.
"We developed this guy as a suspect a few days after the situation on a tip we got," Sheriff David Grice said. "We had to get everything together and talk with the district attorney before we drew up warrants. He wasn't involved in the wreck and did not cause the wreck. He may gotten there before rescue workers arrived."
On Nov. 6, a Brinks truck and another vehicle were involved in a crash on the northbound of U.S. Highway 52. The Brinks truck veered off the road, up an embankment and rolled over several times, spilling money out onto the highway. Grice contacted the State Bureau of Investigation the following day after Brinks filed a report  claiming that $41,000 was not recovered from the accident. Grice included the SBI because dozens of county agencies responded to the scene.
"There were at least 40 people at the scene that night," said Grice. "Since there were so many local responders, we decided to let the SBI handle the investigation. This was a pretty violent wreck and money spilled out everywhere. Those armored cars are extremely heavy."
Grice said in a press release that the investigation is ongoing and Strange, convicted of burning personal property in 1995, is at-large. Grice did not comment on how Strange ended up at the accident scene.
"We believe he might still be in the general area," Grice said.
The driver of the truck, who Grice said at the time was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered serious injuries to his back that left him paralyzed from the waist down.
Anyone with information regarding Strange's whereabouts is asked to call DCSO at 242-2105.
