Cornhole game marks dedication to Special Olympics

Kenneth Gallimore presented a cornhole set he constructed to Special Olympics Davidson County at a meeting of the Silver Valley Civitan Club on Jan. 14. Accepting the gift was Mary Ann Brown, local coordinator of Special Olympics.
The contribution marks the 35th anniversary of the club’s association and support of Special Olympics. Three members of the club attended an organizational meeting in January 1978 for the Special Olympics North Carolina Spring (now Summer) Games to be held at High Point College (now University).
Silver Valley Civitan is noted for its presentation of competition awards to athletes at the fall games and the local spring and winter games.  The club will sponsor its 17 th annual Special Olympics Western Dance & Social on Jan. 25. 
Karen Swaim presented a program about Alpha Healthcare of the Carolinas, Inc.
Nearly 30 people attended the gathering at New Jerusalem United Church of Christ.  The Silver Valley Civitan Club was chartered almost 54 years ago on April 25, 1959.  The club meets the second and fourth Monday each month.
