Woman charged with child abuse
A Thomasville woman is facing a child abuse charge after school officials alerted law enforcement.
Brittany Colson Pettis, 24, of 915-O Blair St., on Friday was arrested and charged with felony child abuse following an investigation dating back to August. According to a Thomasville Police Department press release, school officials on Thursday notified TPD about potential abuse on a 6-year-old child. An investigation revealed Pettis used an electrical cord in August to discipline her child.
"Davidson County Department of Social Services has removed the child from the home," said Detective Jamie Foley. "The child, along with a sibling, has been placed with a family member."
Pettis was placed in the Davidson County Jail and issued a $10,000 secured bond. She is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 30.
