Denton man faces 88 charges in lumber theft

A Denton man faces charges in connection with the larceny of $80,000 worth of lumber from Wilderness NC, 313 New Cut Road in Lexington.

According to the Criminal Investigations Division of the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, Wilderness NC employee Ricky Edward Cross, of 1872 Shiptontown Road, had been selling and receiving payment for lumber for more than a year.

The theft was reported Jan. 15. Cross turned in himself to the High Point Police Department, where he was arrested on Feb. 3 and charged with 44 counts of larceny by employee and 44 counts of obtaining property by false pretenses.

He was issued a $10,000 secured bond with a court date of April 4 in District Criminal Court in Lexington.
