Davidson County man charged with failing to report dad's death in 2007
A Davidson County man was arrested on suspicion of failing to report the 2007 death of his father, whose remains were dumped, deputies said.
Gregory Lane Johnston was charged Wednesday in connection with the death of his father, Walter Henry Johnston.
Davidson County deputies received a call Wednesday to check the welfare of Walter Johnston at a home on Whicker Drive, southeast of Winston-Salem. Deputies never heard back from anyone who lived at the home.
Through the help of the Forsyth and Guilford County sheriff's offices, Davidson County deputies determined Walter Johnston's remains were found in Guilford County in 2007.
Davidson County deputies allege Gregory Johnston dumped Walter Johnston's remains and hid his death in order to collect government checks. Deputies believe Walter Johnston's death was from natural causes.
Gregory Johnston was arrested without incident and charged with failing to report a death. He was held under a $500,000 secured bond in the Davidson County Jail.
