Police: man shoots son during fight
Thomasville police say a Thomasville man shot his son during a fight on the front porch at 1105 Lambeth St.
Police responded to a call at 12:28 p.m. Sunday as a fight in progress. While responding, officers received information that shots had been fired.
Police found that Phillip Westley Lones, 26, of the same address, had been shot in the right shoulder. Lones’ father, Phil Alexander Lones, 48, also of the same address, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
According to the press release, the investigation revealed that prior to the shooting, Phil Lones had physically assaulted a 52-year-old woman, also of the same address, and a fight between Phil and Phillip Lones ensued.
Phil Lones also was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with minors present, assault on a female, and discharging a firearm in the city limits. Police said neither of the two children, ages 1 and 6, were injured.
The woman declined medical attention on the scene.
Police said Phil and Phillip Lones were transported to Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center where they were treated and released.
Phil Lones is currently held with no bond at the Davidson County Jail. A court date is set for April 30.
