Thomasville Police Department executed a citywide sting Thursday morning resulting in dozens of arrests for drug charges.

A four-month long undercover operation involving the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement agency ended Thursday morning with TPD detectives and ALE agents executing 11 search warrants across the Chair City. A total of 51 people were arrested and police seized large quantities of marijuana and cocaine from various locations, according to a TPD press release.

Chief Jeff Insley said the operation was made possible through a joint partnership that included the Davidson County Sheriff's Office, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro Police Department, Denton Police Department, U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Marshals Service, N.C. Probation and Parole, N.C. State Revenue, U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Enforcement Section and the Davidson County District Attorney's Office.
"Partnerships were paramount to the success and making this all come together," Insley said. "We have 13 agencies here working together with the ultimate goal of making the community safer and making it better.
TPD detectives and ALE agents targeted drug traffickers in Thomasville. The undercover investigation stemmed from citizen complaints regarding drug networks in the city that were allegedly selling prescription medications, heroin, opium, cocaine and marijuana. Undercover detectives and agents conducted drug transactions with specific targets in Thomasville.
"We identified several problem areas we were looking to address," said Insley. "We were looking at other ways of dealing with issues so we brought in 13 different agencies to address a cry to deal with particular issues that we're dealing with. It's part of our overall strategy of identifying particular problems we're seeing in the city and coming up with a venue to address them."
According to the release, law enforcement agencies are reporting an increased trend in the sale and abuse of prescription medication. the operation was part of ALE's Community Betterment Initiative aimed at identifying North Carolina communities being held hostage by drugs, gangs and violence.
"We are committed to addressing the needs of neighborhoods and communities with proactive, efficient enforcement strategies," said ALE director John Ledford. "No one should ever fear walking outside their home."
Insley said the operation is part of TPD's strategy of identifying particular problems the department is seeing within the local community and finding a venue to address them.
"Thanks to the teamwork and partnerships with other law enforcement agencies, dangerous drug dealers are now behind bars," Insley said. "Citizens can breathe easier knowing law enforcement is aggressively addressing this criminal element. We will continue to be vigilant in eliminating any further illegal drug activity."
