Thomasville's first two murders of 2013 occurred within hours of each other Saturday.
Thomasville Police Department investigated the year's first homicide at 2:47 a.m. Saturday when officers responded to 815 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in reference to a stabbing, according to a press release. Officers arrived to find Darrell Wayne Turner, 47, lying in the parking lot suffering from a stab wound to the abdomen. Emergency personnel transported Turner to Thomasville Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.
TPD detectives arrested and charged Eric Allen Whisnant, 28 of Tate Street in High Point, Whistant was placed in the Davidson County Jail with no bond.
TPD did not release a motive because the investigation is ongoing.
“Witnesses at the scene were able to tell us what kind of vehicle he left in,” Detective Mike Howard said. “We found him at a home in High Point. I can’t comment on what lead to the killing.”
Less than eight hours later, officers received a call from 211 Pine St. at 10:38 p.m. in reference to a disturbance and shots being fired. When officers arrived, they found 38-year-old David Braswell on the floor inside his residence suffering from a gunshot wound. Medical personnel pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Detectives have identified a person of interest and, while charges are pending the completion of the investigation, no arrests have been made. Howard said he is meeting with the Davidson County District Attorney’s office on Tuesday.
“We don’t want to make any more statements until we talk to the DA and see where he wants to go with it,” said Howard. “I can’t comment on what led to the shooting.”
Anyone with information on either homicide is asked to call TPD at 475-4284 or Crime Stoppers of Thomasville at 476-8477.
