A stolen car and its driver were apprehended after a hit and run March 19.

According to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the T&T Convenience store on S. NC Hwy. 150 in Reeds.

A victim reported that an unknown individual had stolen his vehicle while he had been in the store eating. A view of security camera footage revealed that a man, driving an old Dodge Dakota truck, arrived in the parking lot, exited the Dodge truck, entered the victim's vehicle and drove away.

While detectives and deputies were still on scene, the Winston-Salem Police Department notified deputies that the victim's vehicle had just been involved in a hit and run. The vehicle was located a short time later. When Winston-Salem officers approached him to make an arrest, the suspect fled on foot. He was quickly apprehended and taken into custody.

The man was identified as Luther Alan Stanley, 36, of 124 Self Lane of Cooleemee. Davidson County detectives responded to the scene and inside the vehicle found clothing that matched what the suspect had been seen wearing in the security camera video. Winston-Salem police took Stanley into custody and charged him for the crimes he committed in their jurisdiction. He also was served with a number of outstanding warrants. He is currently being held in the Forsyth County Detention Center on $90,500 secured bond.

Davidson County charges include felony breaking and entering into a motor vehicle and felony larceny of a motor vehicle. As of presstime, Stanley’s bond had not been set in Davidson County. His court date is April 28 in Lexington District Court.
