Courthouse scanner detects handgun in man's coat

A security scanner at Davidson County Courthouse on March 17 revealed a handgun in a coat.

According to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, a man had placed his coat on the table and walked through the scanner near Court Room A. The coat was run through the X-ray machine.

In connection to the report, Michael Tyrone Mayo Jr., 27, of 403 tussey St., Lexington was arrested without incident and charged with possession  of a weapon on state property or courthouse and carrying a concealed weapon. He also was served with a failure to appear warrant.  Mayo was issued a $6,500 secured bond.
