TMC to honor nursing staff

Board certification key factor in patient care

Thomasville Medical Center will celebrate Certified Nurses Day March 19 by honoring its board certified nurses.
Christy Grabus, TMC chief nursing officer, said that board certification is a key factor in the assurance of minimum standards of knowledge, skills and abilities in nursing specialty practice and contributes to better patient outcomes.
Due to the complexities of healthcare, TMC encourages patients to inquire whether there are certified nurses on staff when hospitalized.
Acutely and critically ill patients require heightened vigilance and extraordinarily intricate care from a team of highly skilled health professionals, said Grabus.
TMC Womens Services is an excellent example of how leadership supports certification. To ensure maximum staff competency, Trisha Garner, service line manager for Womens Services, applied to be an exam proctor for the National Certification Corporation in all obstetric and neonatal specialties. Womens Services nurses were provided with study recommended materials to successfully pass their certification exams.
Results of this undertaking produced six newly certified nurses for TMC, which contributes to an environment of professionalism and a culture of retention, said Garner.
By becoming certified, nurses validate expert knowledge and skills, and position themselves for appropriate recognition and a critical sense of confidence, added Garner. Certification provides patients and their families with validation that the nurses’ caring for them have demonstrated experience, knowledge and skills within their specialty area, said Trisha.
In an effort to provide remarkable patient care, TMC encourages national board certification for all its nurses.
