Personal tragedy drove Amalia Grennan to action. After losing her father to lung cancer, the licensed Zumba fitness instructor took strides to unite the community and raise funds for cancer research.

Now the owner and operator of Fitness A to Z in Welcome, Grennan has once again organized a fun way to mobilize county residents. From 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, the second annual Zumbathon will be held at Oak Forest United Methodist Church. All proceeds will all go to Davidson County Relay for Life.

Door prizes, raffle and refreshments will be available at the fundraising event, which hauled in $5,000 during last year’s gathering at Davidson County Community College. The Pink Heals fire truck will be a main attraction at the Zumbathon, and was an enormous hit last year with participants.

"Pink Heals travels all over the country with a mission of love, hope, support, awareness and so much more for cancer, giving the public an opportunity to purchase merchandise and the opportunity to sign the name of anyone that is a survivor or has passed from cancer."

Oak Forest United Methodist Church is located at 11461 Old U.S. Hwy 52 in Winston-Salem. The cost is $5 to participate.
