More than 400 people gathered Tuesday night for Christmas Trees of Davidson County, presented by the Thomasville Medical Center Foundation.
A total of 66 trees were decorated. Miss Thomasville Katy Ezzell and her sister Krissy Ezzell, Thomasville's Miss Outstanding Teen, and Tori Gross, Miss Central Carolina Princess, were given the honor of assisting Kathie Johnson, president of TMC, with the ceremonial lighting of the trees.
"On behalf of our local staff, employees and volunteers, I want to thank you for joining us for the 13th annual Christmas Trees of Davidson County lighting," Johnson said during her opening remarks. "Tonight, we have 66 businesses and service organizations from across the county who have uniquely decorated trees."
Linda Hunt, executive director of the TMC Foundation, said there were a record number of requests for trees, so many that not every request could be accommodated. Those who were present for the lighting enjoyed a spectacular display and were immersed in Christmas cheer.
Chair City children were delighted by an appearance of Santa Claus, who Johnson said "was kind enough to pay us a visit before heading back to the North Pole."
While children sat on the lap of Santa, adults of all ages took time to admire the work of many organizations that capitalized on the efforts of Hunt and her crew of volunteers. Others were treated to music by Christmas carolers from Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church and simply enjoyed making their way around the lobby, bumping into fellow members of the community as they gazed at the lights.
"To see the eyes of the children and the eyes of those from the Brookstone retirement community, it was worth all of the hard work," Hunt said. "It brought friends, family members and neighbors together."
Nine trees are available for auction through Dec. 21. For more information on how to bid, please contact a TMC staff member at 472-2000.
