It did not take Tori Gross long to chart out her first mission after claiming the title of Outstanding Little Miss Thomasville Young Miss.
Inspired by the success of the Miss Thomasville Scholarship Pageant, Tori alerted promoter Travis Green that she had plans to organize a different kind of pageant. At 3 p.m. Sunday, May 26, at the PACE Park Ampitheater, her vision will come to fruition as the Chair City wil host to its first Bow-Wow Beauty Pageant.
"Every year, the Miss Thomasville and Central Carolina Scholarship Pageants get to donate money to Children's Miracle Network," Tori said. "Each queen has the opportunity to do a fundraiser for the Children's Miracle Network. When I won it, I told Travis I really wanted to do this fundraiser."
Sharon Gross, Tori's mother, helped her daughter divide the pageant into five classifications: Bow-Wow Princess and Prince for the 10-pound and under weight class; and Bow-Wow King and Queen for dogs 11 pounds and over. An overall winner will be named Top Dog.
To be eligible for the pageant, canines must be properly vaccinated. Dogs will compete in beauty and casual wear segments, the former requiring them to be without garmets. To qualify for Top Dog, a participant must complete the beauty and casual wear portions of the competition, plus photogenic and talent divisions.
"We were trying to find a fundraiser people haven't done," Sharon Gross said. "There are so many pageants for kids, and one day Tori was like, 'Maybe we should do one for dogs. We kind of laughed at first, but we decided to do it because we see many of our neighbors and people (in Thomasville) out walking their dogs."
Sharon Gross said her daughter was 4 years old when she became involved in pageantry and has remained involved because of her appreciation of community service.
"She has done a wonderful job planning," Green said. "With Miss Thomasville being a part of the Miss America organization, we participate with the Miracle Network throughout the year. This will be our annual fundraiser for this year and we hope it's successful enough to become an every-year event."
