Sinus procedure available in office
Balloon sinuplasty, a clinically proven, minimally invasive technology for treating chronic sinus inflammation once only available through outpatient surgery in a hospital, is now also available in the office at Davidson Ear, Nose, Throat and Sinus Center in Thomasville.  Frank Burton, MD, is one of the first physicians in the area to provide this service in his office.
Sinusitis is one of the most common chronic health problems in the U.S afflicting some 37 million Americans.  Patients suffer headaches, congestion, fatigue and other symptoms.  This condition significantly impacts an individual’s physical, functional, and emotional quality of life.
Traditionally, sinus surgery is performed in the operating room.  The challenges and costs associated with going to the hospital often keep patients away from seeking treatment. Burton says, “I have been successfully performing balloon sinuplasty for several years in the hospital.”  This new option provides patients the same alternative with less expense and more convenience than a hospital procedure.  Patients should be able to return to normal activities within 24 hours. With each patient, we explore all options.  I first try medical therapy – antibiotics, irrigation and nasal sprays.  If the symptoms persist, some sort of intervention is needed.  An in-office balloon sinuplasty might be the chosen option.”
Balloon sinuplasty, is a minimally invasive technology that involves a small, flexible balloon catheter being placed through the nose into the blocked sinus passageway.  The balloon is then inflated to gently restructure and open the sinus passageway, restoring normal sinus drainage and function.  Until now, this procedure has only been available to patients only in a hospital setting.
