Benefit Saturday for Persiani family

Mom injured in head-on collision
Aug. 01, 2013 @ 10:54 AM

Tuesday, May 21, began like a typical morning for Monica Persiani. By 11:30 a.m. it  had become a day like none other.

On her way to pickup her son from preschool, Monica and her 11-month-old daughter were involved in a head-on collision near the intersection of Fisher Ferry Road, Cedar Lodge Road and Denton Road.

. Both  were transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center — her daughter by ambulance in stable condition and Monica was airlifted in critical condition.

Her daughter miraculously suffered no injuries, but Monica suffered a multitude of  injuries with several classified as severe which required surgeries. Monica is out  of the hospital and has started therapy. Picnic for the Persiani’s, a fundraiser set for Aug. 3, will assist with the medical expenses.

“It has been my great joy to watch Monica grow and mature in her spiritual walk over the years.  Even in this deep valley she has maintained a most  positive attitude,” said Pastor, Dr. Keith Carroll, of Mount Zion Wesleyan Church.  “Though she still faces a long road, she is always careful to express her thankfulness to God for sparing her life and for continued healing in the days ahead.  Monica has always exhibited such tender, compassionate care for others.

"This benefit simply provides the opportunity for our community to return the favor to this special family.”

The Picnic for the Persiani’s will be  at Mount Zion Wesleyan Church, 222 Mount Zion Church Road. A hot dog supper will be from 5 to 9 p.m.. Tickets, $5 a person, may be purchased at the event. The event includes live music, a bake sale and a bounce house. A silent auction will take place from 4 to 7 p.m..
