Conference to train county leaders
Business leaders in Davidson County will gather next month to discuss economic development, education, government and human services as the Lexington and Thomasville chambers of commerce partner to host their 23rd Leadership Davidson County program.
An opening retreat in Brown Summit is scheduled to kick off the conference Feb. 7-8, with four more sessions convening March 21, April 18, May 16 and June 20.
"This is a leadership development program that focuses on conflict resolution and team dynamics to develop leadership skills," said Thomasville Area Chamber President Doug Croft. "We have community themes our discussions are filtered through. Our six or seven facilitators who lead these conversations do so with those themes in mind."
Mary Jane Akerman, Lee Jessup and the Rev. Ray Howell of Lexington are among the speakers who will be on hand to help train leadership participants. Croft said Howell’s historical perspective of Davidson County has been an invaluable asset in helping participants to understand the culture of the county they wish to serve.
Tuition fee for the entire program is $495. The program includes materials, meals, networking environment and one overnight accommodation.
According to Croft, nearly 500 business leaders from throughout the county have gained knowledge, experience, leadership development skills and new connections from this program in the last quarter-century.
"In my experience with this program since year one, I've never heard anybody who participated and didn't rave about it," Croft said. "We're delivering value. The feedback we've always received has been phenomenal and the list of graduates is full of familiar names. To me, it's been a pretty powerful thing."
Registration is to be completed by Jan. 25 through the Thomasville Area Chamber of Commerce office. Participants must reside or be employed in Davidson County.
